HOW PEOPLE WILL FIND YOUR BUSINESS WEB SITE

There's no way to do an exhaustive treatment of this topic here. There are endless possibilities and they can vary greatly depending on your business type and personality. Your web site...all the treasures you'll invest into this great 24/7/365 full-color brochure are now accessible at: YourBusinessName.com. So...how do you get the word out?

Here are some great ways of getting your URL (your domain name...your internet address) out in front of people's eyes. First of all, keep it brief. DO NOT include the "www" at the beginning unless you've got a great reason to (you probably don't). No one needs that anymore...it's old news, and makes your web address longer. If your web host requires that you use it...GET A NEW HOST:

  • business cards (they're cheap and compact...get them and get them in people's hands)
  • your email signature (ever wonder about the blue underlined links at the bottom of emails of folks you correspond with? yeah, so does everyone else. put your web address down there, in the full format: http://YourCompanyName.com ...this makes it clickable pretty much everywhere...and people WILL click on it)
  • tshirts
  • bumper and other stickers (give them out free)
  • buy a sponsor block in your local high school's football program (there are many similar opportunities, of course)
  • ad specialties (key fobs, mouse pads, pens, lanyards, mouse pads, post-it pads, calendars, etc)
  • yellow pages
  • get listed in local web directories
  • include your web address in any print or broadcast ads
  • swap links with other related web sites
  • buy advertising on other web sites
  • put it on the door or in the window of your business, or on that sign out front
  • on the side of your company vans
  • put a window sticker or magnetic sign on your own car

The vast majority of businesses do not operate 24/7/365...but your web site is ALWAYS there, working for you...anytime someone has a question or wants to reach out and make contact. A good web site makes it MUCH less likely that you will simply lose that spark of expressed interest even when it's outside normal business hours.
